Nokia Aborts MeeGo Device Before Launch

It's a double whammy for Nokia. First, , Stephen Elop was leaked. What really struck the company hard was the brutal stance Elop took, comparing Nokia's current situation to standing on a burning platform, and admitting the limitations of the Symbian OS to satisfy the consumer demand. The said memo did have a mention of how the company might have only just one MeeGo device by the end of 2011. And now, sources close to the company have revealed that its first MeeGo device has just been aborted before launch.

Reuters - Nokia has ended development of its first smartphone using its new MeeGo operating system before it was ever launched, two industry sources close to the company said. A spokesman for Nokia declined to comment.

That's two strikes for Nokia. Right now, all eyes are upon Capital Markets Day, which has rumors pointing towards a potential software alliance between Nokia and Microsoft. Capital Markets Day will be happening in London on 11th February at 11am London time, which puts this back to 7pm Singapore time.
