Motorola Rumoured to Acquire Mobile Linux OS Company Azingo

For the past few months, Motorola has been putting forth its effort onto the Google Android platform with its smartphone lineup. However, the recent news of Motorola's rumored acquisition of Azingo, a mobile OS based on Linux, could change all that. Should this acquisition happen, you can expect to see some changes on the Motorola lineup.

Engadget - This one isn't official just yet, but if some changes in employment status on LinkedIn is any indication, it looks like Motorola may have recently acquired mobile Linux OS company Azingo. It may not exactly be a major player in the mobile OS field, but its Linux-based Azingo Mobile OS does look to be capable enough (complete with a Webkit-based browser and Flash runtime), and the acquisition is especially interesting in light of some recent comments made by Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha.

And the comments made by Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha is referring to a full ecosystem that requires a full fledged mobile service that works in tandem with their proprietary OS. Could the Azingo acquisition be a precursor of what's to come for Motorola? Keep a close watch, and maybe, by 2011, you could see a new mobile OS joining the group.
