MediaTek takes the fight to Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with the Dimensity 9200+
Smartphones powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ are slated to hit the market later this month.
MediaTek just unveiled a new flagship chipset that rivals the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9200+ has higher clock speeds for the CPU and GPU. The Dimensity 9200+ has one ultra-core ARM Cortex-X3 running at up to 3.35GHz (up from 3.0GHz), three ARM Cortex-A715 super-cores running up to 3.0GHz (up from 2.85GHz), and four ARM Cortex-A510 high-efficiency cores at 2.0GHz (up from 1.8GHz). The ARM Immortalis-G715 GPU also has a performance boost of 17%.
These higher clock speeds bring MediaTek's latest chipset closer to what Qualcomm offers with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on the Galaxy S23 series: the prime ARM Cortex-X3 runs at a peak of 3.36GHz while the ARM Cortex-A715 runs at 2.8GHz and the ARM Cortex-A510 is pegged at 2.0GHz.
Other than the higher clock speeds, the Dimensity 9200+ has the same specs as the 9200 which include Wi-Fi 7 support, integrated 5G modem, and the 6th-gen APU 690.
MediaTek states that smartphones powered by the Dimensity 9200+ are expected to be released later this month.
