MediaTek is targeting the midrange phone market with its new Dimensity 8400 smartphone system-on-chip.
Similar to the recently announced flagship-tier Dimensity 9400 flagship chip, the new Dimensity 8400 chip has an All Big Core design, consisting of an 8-core ARM Cortex-A725 processor clocked at up to 3.25GHz.
MediaTak claims the Dimensity 8400 boasts 41% higher multi-core performance and a 44% reduction in peak power consumption compared to its predecessor (Dimensity 8300).
In terms of graphic performance, the Dimensity 8400 delivers 24% higher peak performance and 42% greater power efficiency than its predecessor due to the use of the Arm Mali-G720 GPU.
The Dimensity 8400 is also designed for AI applications; it comes with the NPU 880, which supports mainstream LLM/SLM/LMMs. It also integrates the company's Dimensity Agentic AI engine (DAE), which allows developers to create artificial AI apps that anticipate user needs and adapt to their preferences.
Other specs include a built-in Imagiq 1080 ISP for faster and more accurate focusing, capturing more light, and delivering high-resolution images, a 5G-A modem with 3CC-CA support and up to 5.17Gbps performance, and support for WQHD+ displays up to 144Hz.
MediaTek says the first phones powered by the Dimensity 8400 will arrive in the market by the end of the year.
