While Pixel 4's astrophotography mode and Live Caption are coming to the Pixel 3 lineup, two other camera features remain exclusive to the recently announced smartphones.

Google confirmed in a tweet that Live HDR+ and dual exposure controls will not be available on older Pixel devices as the two features require low-level capabilities in the hardware that are only available on the Pixel 4.

Live HDR+ allows you to see in real time what the photo will look like after HDR processing. It pairs well with dual exposure controls, which gives you separate sliders for adjusting the highlights and shadows. Dual exposure controls are useful in challenging lighting situations such as taking picture of someone against a bright sky.
