Unlike the past two years, LG may be ready to launch its flagship smartphone earlier this year.

According to The Korea Times, LG has sent out invitations for a press event at next month's Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona. A company executive said that it "plans to unveil a new flagship mobile" at the event as it is ready to take on Samsung, which is holding an event on 21st February to launch the Galaxy S7.

Reports so far have suggested that the G5 will sport a metal design, a secondary display like the V10, a 5.3-inch Quad-HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage space, a dual-lens setup on the rear, a fingerprint sensor, and a 2,800mAh battery. One of its key features is the "Magic Slot" or modular design which allows users to swap batteries and other hardware modules.
