The LG G6 also supports USB Power Delivery for fast charging
Just like the LG G5 before it.
LG’s latest flagship Android smartphone, the G6, is yet another new phone to come with a USB Type-C port. Sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, this USB-C port also supports fast charging based on Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 tech. With the bundled QC3 adapter, the phone will charge at a maximum 9V at 1.8A (16.2W).
But not all adapters support Quick Charge 3.0; and certainly, even fewer USB-C adapters support Qualcomm’s fast charging standard. What if you already have, say, a USB-C adapter in the office but it supports USB Power Delivery instead?
I happened to have an Apple 87W USB-C power adapter for the new MacBook Pros, which is a USB-PD charger that can do 20.2V/4.3A and 9V/3A, so I decided to do a quick test. With the G6’s battery drained down to around 10%, the Apple charger was measured to be topping up the G6’s charge at around 8.8V at 1.8A.
So yeah (and yay!), like the LG G5, the LG G6 also supports USB Power Delivery.
Thanks, LG.
