LG Announces Optimus 2X with NVIDIA Tegra 2 Processor and Android 2.2

In 2011, LG will be introducing their very first Google Android device that'll be powered by NVIDIA's Tegra 2 processor. Loaded with Android 2.2, the LG Optimus 2X will also be upgradeable to Android 2.3 at a later date.

Think the current smartphones powered by a 1GHz processor isn't enough for you? How about a phone, with a dual-core processor? LG has just announced their LG Optimus 2X, an Android 2.2 device that will be powered by NVIDIA's Tegra 2 processor. And if you're hoping for an Android 2.3 update, it is forthcoming, though a specific date hasn't been set.

LG News Room - LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled the LG Optimus 2X, the world’s first smartphone with a dual-core processor. Along with more powerful multimedia features, the LG Optimus 2X’s high-performance Tegra 2 processor makes for faster, smoother web browsing and applications and lets users multitask with virtually no screen lag.

Looking deeper, you'll also get 1080p video recording and playback on the Optimus 2X's 4.0-inch WVGA screen. In hindsight, the Tegra 2 chip should be of some help with its 1080p rendering. The LG Optimus 2X will be available in Korea from Jan 2011, followed by an upcoming release in Asia and Europe. We should be expecting it at CES 2011, and hopefully, we'll be getting some hands-on time with it.
