This morning, Lenovo unveiled their latest flagship smartphone, the Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro.
The new flagship uses a 5.2-inch AMOLED Full HD display (1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution) at ~424 pixels per inch. The display also has a minimum brightness of only 1 nit, and a maximum brightness of 500 nits. It is framed by a 0.05mm black border, with a total frame width of only 1.41mm. Lenovo claims that the frame is a new record among the smartphone industry.
As a flagship mobile phone, the Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro packs a bunch of interesting features. The phone supports wet fingerprint unlocking, and it claims that it will take only 0.1 second to unlock to the phone during normal usage. Lenovo claims that “it’s the first mobile phone” that supports wet fingerprint unlocking.
While the announcement does not specify the megapixel resolution of its rear camera, this comparison of the Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro against a Xiaomi Mi 5 showed that the Lenovo flagship has a 13-megapixel rear camera with a photosite size of 1.34μm, and an aperture of f1.8. It has dual image stabilization, and it supports both Phase Detection Auto Focus and Contrast Auto Focus. The camera supports video-shooting in 4K resolution.
The Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro uses the latest Snapdragon 820 SoC. Their announcement indicated that their new flagship smartphone has the ability to “100 percent activates the potential of the Snapdragon 820 platform”, citing the use of the SoC’s CPU, GPU, and SPU (Sensor Processing Unit) processor structure. Putting the claims made by Lenovo aside, we do know that the Snapdragon 820 does a lot more than its upgraded processing power and making Wi-Fi 802.11ad support available. You can read up on the breakdown of a Snapdragon 820 parts and what they do here, and here’s a closer look at what it does for mobile data connectivity.
The dual nano-SIM flagship phone packs 3,100mAh (premium version) and 3,000mAh (flagship version), and it supports LTE connectivity (including bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 20). It also supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, and it uses Bluetooth 4.0 for short-range pairing of peripheral devices. This Android 6.0 OS (Marshmallow) phone uses a USB Type-C connector for charging and transferring of files.
It looks like we don’t deserve nice things – the Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro will not be coming to Singapore in the foreseeable future. It will begin taking pre-orders for other markets come 10th May 2016, over at their official website. The standard version has 64GB storage and 4GB RAM with its pricing yet to be announced, while the premium version with 128GB storage and 6GB RAM will be priced at 2,699 RMB (~S$561.29).
