iPhone 7 may not be the major upgrade you are looking for

Barclays analyst Mark Moskowitz claims that there will not be a major upgrade this year. Read on to find out why.

Another analyst has stepped forward to share his predictions on the Apple iPhone 7 and it doesn't seem to be rosy.

According to Barclays analyst Mark Moskowitz, his supply chain checks reveal that there will not be a major iPhone upgrade this year as the upcoming model will not sport "any must-have form factor changes". Moskowitz went to the extent of calling the iPhone 7 more of a replacement cycle.

He also shared that Apple is currently considering to drop the "S" suffix from the iPhone as the 2017 iPhone will launch with major design changes such as OLED, the elimination of the home button and wireless charging.

Moskowitz's claims are not new; KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared earlier this week that a major redesign is expected in 2017 where Apple will ditch the aluminium chassis for an "all-glass" enclosure. Rumors of Apple switching to OLED displays surfaced months ago and Samsung reportedly secured a deal to supply Apple with 100 million units of 5.5-inch panels

iPhones with virtual home buttons are said to be in the pipeline as Taiwan's IC design industry claim that Apple is working on touch and display driver integration (TDDI) single-chip solutions. These TDDI single-chip solutions are said to integrate fingerprint sensors with the virtual home button, resulting in "ultra-thin and ultra-narrow displays" for future iPhones. Wireless charging is another rumored feature which could be introduced.
