Apple is said to have shelved plans for solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro.

The first report came from Haitong International Securities analysts Jeff Pu and Shelly Chou, who claim the solid-state buttons will debut on the iPhone 16 Pro in 2024 as Apple ran into unspecified "design issues".

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo corroborated the report by stating that Apple had "unresolved technical issues before mass production", and expects the iPhone 15 Pro to adopt the "traditional" design for buttons.

Rumours about the solid-state buttons surfaced late last year and Apple supplier Cirrus Logic seemed to confirm the speculation by revealing in a newsletter to shareholders that "a strategic customer" would "bring a new HPMS component to market in smartphones next year".

An anonymous source recently shared with MacRumours that a new ultra-low energy chipset would be powering the solid-state buttons including an "action" button that will replace the mute switch. The sensitivity of the solid-state buttons could also be customised to use with gloves and cases.
