iOS 12 might not be a major update this year as initially planned.

According to Bloomberg, Apple informed its engineering teams earlier this month that key features slated for iOS 12 would have to be delayed till next year as it shifts focus to improving the performance of the software. iOS 11 has been criticized for the numerous bugs and quality issues.

Major software updates planned for iOS 12 include a redesigned home screen app grid, a multiplayer mode for augmented reality (AR) games and a revamped photo management app with new algorithms to better automatically sort photos are likely to be pushed back. Core features such as the merger of third-party apps running on iPhones and Macs are still on schedule to be introduced later this year.

iOS 12 is not the only platform to be affected; Mac computer software is also said to be affected albeit a lesser extent. The upgrades for Apple Watch and Apple TV software will still proceed as planned.
