Intel Releasing Android-Powered Smartphones and Tablets in First Half of 2012
Intel will be releasing smartphones and tablets running on Android 4.0 in the first half of 2012. The devices will be powered by Intel's upcoming Atom Medfield chips.

2012 is set to be an exciting year for Google Android as Intel-based smartphones and tablets powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be launched.
According to Android Community, Intel is currently working on a version of Android 4.0 for its upcoming Atom Medfield system-on-a chip (SoC), and it is already in the production stage. Smartphones using Intel's designs are expected to be available in the first half of 2012.
The new Atom SoC will enable Intel to enter the lucrative smartphone and tablet market, one that has been dominated by companies such as Qualcomm with its power efficient Advanced RISC Mchine (ARM) SoCs. Intel's x86-based SoCs wasn't favored for its relatively higher power consumption, but all that could change with the company's new Atom Medfield SoC.
It is too early to tell if Intel's x86-based chips can establish a presence in a market that is mainly dominated by ARM chips. If it does, the company will be in good stead when the first ARM-based Windows 8 devices arrive sometime in 2013.
