Smartphones these days are capable of creating incredible photo and video content, but a separate gimbal has always been a worthy investment for people looking to get even better videos. Insta360’s newly-announced Flow 2 Pro gimbal builds on the company’s Insta360 Flow gimbal, with improved features and hardware.

The Insta360 Flow 2 Pro comes with Deep Track 4.0, the company’s updated AI-powered tracking software to help videographers ensure their subject is always in-frame. For videographers who shoot from a distance, the new Active Zoom Tracking feature allows for the phone to track subjects even when zooming in up to 15x.

There’s also Multi-Person Tracking, which uses AI to help ensure groups are kept in frame and perfectly centered. Additionally, Insta360 has included Apple DockKit integration, allowing for seamless native subject tracking in the built-in Camera app on iPhones, as well as in other apps like BlackMagic and other third-party iOS apps.

There’s also a new selfie mirror built into the gimbal, which is handy for framing shots without having to look at the phone’s screen. For vloggers, the new Teleprompter feature will also be super handy if you’re used to reading off a script.

If you need help with framing, the Pro Framing Grid feature available when shooting in the Insta360 app uses AI to guide framing and composition. Just tap on one of the nine grids, and the gimbal will automatically analyze the position of the subject and composition to get a better result.

The Insta360 Flow 2 Pro has a sturdier build now, with a new Free Tilt mode that opens up more possibilities for creative shots like crane and tilt shots. The gimbal can also rotate freely with 360° Infinite Pan Tracking, which allows for uninterrupted tracking shots.

The gimbal can be remotely controlled either through an Apple Watch or by a separate smartphone, which means it’s easier to get shots without having to interrupt the shot to adjust the gimbal. Battery life has been reduced slightly, however, with the smaller 1,100mAh battery inside only supporting 10 hours of battery life compared to the Insta360 Flow Pro’s 12 hours.

As it stands, the Flow 2 Pro looks like a significant update over its predecessor with many new features that content creators will likely find helpful. The slightly shorter battery life is a downer, but 10 hours is still plenty and it looks like a fair trade-off given the extra features and the fact that weight is largely the same.
