Huawei will hit global sales target of 140 million phones, top seller is the P9

Based on its sales numbers, Huawei may have what it takes to surpass Apple as the world's second biggest handset maker in 2018.

2016 looks to be another good year for Huawei.

According to GizmoChina, Huawei’s senior vice president recently revealed during an interview that the company will achieve its global sales target this year of 140 million phones. The best seller is the P9 smartphone with sales exceeding 9 million units and it is expected to reach 12 million by the end of the product life cycle. The Mate 8 has also done well with sales of 7 million units.

Earlier this year, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) predicted that Huawei would be the smartphone brand to watch out. In 2015, Huawei shipped about 108 million phones globally which is a first for a Chinese phone maker. The WSJ believes the employees' dedication is the key to Huawei's success today and it could possibly be its strategy to overtake Apple and Samsung as the world's biggest phone maker in the near future.
