Today (11 May 2023), Huawei Singapore announced the official launch of its photography flagship Huawei P60 Pro and foldable Huawei Mate X3, bringing both iconic phone models to the Singapore market.

Huawei P60 Pro

The Huawei P60 Pro was first launched in its home market (China) back in March this year. The phone is finally ready to make its rounds globally, with Singapore getting the P60 Pro two months after the Chinese reveal.

Huawei doubled down on its imaging capabilities through its new premium flagship handset with breakthroughs in its optical system. New to the phone is an 48MP, f/2.1 aperture Ultra Lightning Telephoto Camera with Multiple Lens Groups (also known as Ultra Lightning Telephoto Camera), improving Huawei’s existing telephoto performance. This lens boosts its light intake by relying on hardware and using an RYYB SuperSensing Sensor. Here's our quick look at it in-person:-

The resulting perks include Huawei’s upgraded Super Moon feature, which uses the Ultra Lightning Telephoto Camera to get even better astrophotography shots.

A new Long Travel Slide Zoom Lens Group also allows for variable focusing distance, allowing AF to work on long zoom and macro close-ups.

Huawei did not neglect its main camera either, bringing us a new 48MP Ultra Lightning Main Camera with f/1.4-4.0 Auto-Adjustable Physical Aperture, a High Transmittance Lens Group, and RYYB SuperSening Sensor. Also updated is its XD Fusion Pro dedicated image processing engine. Together, they offer low-light shooting, ultra-high dynamic range, and detailing of shots.

To cover all photography bases, the phone also has a 13MP ultrawide angle camera. However, only the 48MP shooters on its back have OIS.

The external facade of the P60 Pro also received royal treatment, starting with its 6.67-inch LTPO AMOLED display (2,700 x 1,220 pixels resolution, 1-120Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate). The display is TÜV Rheinland Color Accuracy certified for both Colour Accuracy and Precise Colour Projection.

Coating the curved display phone is Huawei’s proprietary Kunlun Glass, which the brand claims 10x of normal glass’s drop resistance while keeping to its IP68 protection promises.

The Rococo Pearl colourway of the Huawei P60 Pro takes its luxury further with a new and first-ever Pearl Texture Design, which uses minerialised pearl powder to create its Mother of Pearl appearance. Alternatively, its Black variant has Anti-Fingerprint Feather-Sand Glass, which confers a softer hand-feel while giving it a diamond-like shine.

As a handset, Huawei P60 Pro does not use Google Mobile Services. It still relies on its HMS Core, cloaked under EMUI 13.1 (a reskin of a forked Android 12). You will still need to grab workarounds to sign in to Google Accounts and apps, but you can get most other apps via its extensive AppGallery store.

Inside is a battery with 4,815mAh capacity and 88W wired Huawei SuperCharge fast charging, with 50W wireless and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. It supports up to 4G networks, thanks to its modified Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor clocked at 3.2GHz.

Foldable lovers can look towards the Huawei Mate X3, a book-style foldable handset that grants a rectangular 6.4-inch display (1080p resolution) when folded, and a squarish 7.85-inch display (2,496 x 2,224 pixels) when unfolded.

Foldables need no introduction given the massive success of recent Korean and Chinese foldable smartphones. However, Huawei said that its Mate X3 is “the world’s slimmest and lightest large screen foldable smartphone”, with a folded depth of just 11.08mm and weighing 239g (for reference, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 5G is 15.8mm and 263g respectively).  Here's how it looks and feels in hand:-

Despite its lithe foldable form factor, Huawei ensured that it had a slim USB Type-C port on its device, along with IPX8 water resistance.

Here’s a little more about its two panels. Both its inside and outside panels are OLED, with 426 PPI pixel density on both displays, ensuring consistent sharpness no matter which panel you’re looking at. It’s also double-certified by TÜV Rheinland’s Colour Accuracy & Precise Colour Projection, on top of its Intelligent Light-Sensitive Display technology to ensure visibility in low-light conditions.

Like the Huawei P60 Pro, it shares the same perks and shortfalls for its internal operations. It has the same Qualcomm SD8+G1 chipset, 4G connectivity, and HMS Core powering the Mate X3’s day-to-day.

Unlike its photography-focused sibling, the Mate X3 offers a 4,800mAh battery with 66W wired, 50W wireless, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. To aid heat dissipation, Huawei also included a highly conductive graphene layer, which is helpful for charging and gaming.

The triple rear imaging system on the Mate X3 is a 50MP Ultra Vision main camera, a 13MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 12MP Periscope Telephoto Camera. This gives the foldable 5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom. Additionally, both main and telephoto use Huawei’s RYYB sensor, which takes in 40% more light when compared to an RGB sensor of the same size.
