The Huawei Pura X flips the clamshell foldable form factor.
Huawei did not launch a phone with a rollable screen, but it brings something new to the table with the Pura X.
The Huawei Pura X may look like the typical clamshell foldable phone, but the Chinese company decided to flip the form factor by designing it to open sideways, not vertically. Now, does that make it a book-style foldable?
At any rate, the hinge is located at the side of the Huawei Pura X and it lets you flip open the device sideways to reveal a 6.3-inch OLED display in a 16:10 aspect ratio. Alternatively, you can rotate it to use as a typical (albeit pretty wide) flip phone.
When unfolded, the Huawei Pura X has a 6.3-inch display that blurs the line between clamshell and book-style foldable form factors.
On the outside is a 3.5-inch OLED display which offers quick access to the camera, messaging apps and music player without having to unfold the device. It is also meant to take calls in the folded form factor.
Huawei also achieved two milestones with the Pura X. It is the first Huawei phone to ditch Android for good. HarmonyOS Next, which ships on the Pura X, does not contain an Android Open Source Project core and is incompatible with Android APKs and apps.
This is unlike the Huawei Mate 70 series, where consumers can choose between HarmonyOS Next or the Android-based HarmonyOS.

The Pura X is also the first Huawei phone to ship with Harmony Intelligence, an AI assistant based on the in-house Pangu model and augmented by DeepSeek.
Other specs include a triple-lens system and spectral image sensor on the outside (50MP f/1.6 primary camera with RYYB sensor and OIS + 40MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera + 8MP telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom), a 10MP camera on the inside, and a 4,720mAh battery that supports 66W wired and 40W wireless charging.
Availability and Pricing
For now, the Huawei Pura X is only available in China with prices starting from 7,499 yuan (~S$1,386). There is no word on a global rollout for the device.
