While the world is still in shock over the whopping price tag of the world's first triple-screen foldable phone, Huawei drops another shocker with the official repair price list for the Mate XT.
Based on the official price list, the most expensive component to repair for the Huawei Mate XT (1TB) is the motherboard which is priced at 10,699 yuan (~S$1,960.80).
The second most expensive component to repair is the screen, which can cost up to 9,799 yuan (~S$1,796) if you do not want to recycle the old damaged screen. The screen repair fee drops to 7,999 yuan (~S$1,466) if you recycle the old screen.
To put these repair fees into perspective, a motherboard replacement can buy you the S$1,899 Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max (256GB) or the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 (12GB + 512GB).
The screen replacement fee (without recycling the old screen) costs as much as the S$1,749 Apple iPhone 16 Pro (256GB) or it can get you the $1,648 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 (12GB + 256GB) with some change.
Fortunately, the repair fees for the other essential components remain more sensible. For example, a battery replacement is 499 yuan (~S$91), while a camera repair ranges from 269 yuan (~S$49) for the rear wide-angle camera) to 759 yuan (~S$139) for the rear main camera.
The Huawei Mate XT is currently only available in China and costs at least S$3,660. Anyone who plans to get this foldable phone had better take good care of it or risk enlarging that hole in their wallet.
