The Huawei Mate X6 is the H2 2024 update to the foldable subvariant (Mate X series) of Huawei’s flagship-grade Mate series. The predecessor was a China-only launch, which makes the Huawei Mate X6 highly anticipated among its loyal users worldwide.

According to Huawei, the Mate X6’s rear camera island is called Space-Age Orbit design, featuring a round plate and octagon rims hosting four cameras. They are a 50MP main (f/1.4-4.0 aperture, RYYB sensor, OIS, 24mm), a 40MP ultrawide (f/2.2 aperture, RYYB sensor, 13mm), 48MP telephoto (f/3.0, RYYB sensor, OIS, 4x optical zoom at 90mm), assisted by an Ultra Chroma Camera with 1.5 million spectral channels for added imaging detail.

The cameras have 5cm focus distance for macro shots, up to 100x digital zoom, Ultra Speed Snapshot for fast-moving subjects, and a host of other fringe camera features.

As a book-style foldable, it has a 7.93-inch Main Screen (2,440 x 2,440 pixels resolution, LTPO OLED, 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate) paired with its 6.45-inch Cover Screen (2,440 x 1,080 pixels resolution, LTPO OLED, 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate). Both come with “HDR Vivid” dynamic range.

The two displays also support multitasking with up to three apps simultaneously. Users can add Smart Control Buttons to make certain features accessible directly on the Home Screen. For added privacy, the Main Screen also has a smart camera that hides message contents if it senses someone else looking at it.

Other perks include its self-developed Kunlun Glass 2nd Generation with 25x better drop resistance, a carbon fibre inner screen plate with 65% better stiffness to withstand pressure, and an aviation-grade aluminium middle frame for 37% increased strength against impact.

The hinge is an ultra-high-strength steel, and the phone has IPX8-rated water resistance.

The phone comes with a 5,110mAh battery capacity, alongside 66W wired and 50W wireless Huawei SuperCharge fast charging.

Instead of its HarmonyOS alternative seen in China markets, the global version of Huawei Mate X6 uses EMUI 15 (based on Android 12) for dual compatibility with Android apps and AppGallery software. It still does not support Google Mobile Services, although it’s possible to sideload Android apps from third-party app stores.

Also, Huawei did not officially mention the chipset used in the Mate X6, but reports state that it uses the same chip (Kirin 9020) as the Huawei Mate 70, which was launched in early December 2024.

The phone was released alongside other Huawei accessories, like the Nova 13 series phones, Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4 true wireless earbuds, Huawei FreeClip Rose Gold, and the Huawei MatePad 11.5 tablet.
