The Huawei Mate X, which was initially on track to launch this month, will be released in September according to a company spokesperson.

A Huawei spokesperson told CNBC that the company is more "cautious" and doing extra tests on the Mate X after what happened to the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

“We don’t want to launch a product to destroy our reputation,” the spokesperson told CNBC.

The extra tests also include working with telcos around the world and developers to ensure their apps work when the Mate X is unfolded.

Huawei remains “confident” in delivering the Mate X to consumers in September despite the U.S blacklist affecting its supply chain. The Mate X will continue to run on Android OS as it was announced before the company was placed on the blacklist.

The Mate X was announced in February with much fanfare as it is thinner and has a larger display than the Galaxy Fold. Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business, feels the design of the Mate X is better than the Galaxy Fold.
