Huawei debuts Nova and Nova Plus phones at IFA 2016

The new smartphone series by Huawei features a multi-curve design, and it’s aimed at users with fast-paced lifestyles.

Huawei launches the new Huawei Nova and Huawei Nova Plus at IFA 2016. These two smartphones are part of Huawei’s new smartphone range that offers a multi-curve design, with emphasis to its photography performance.

The Nova is a 5-inch smartphone with a Full HD, 2.5D curved glass display. In it, is a Snapdragon 625 SoC clocked at 2.0GHz. The phone runs on Android 6.0 OS skinned beneath the EMUI 4.1 interface, with 32GB internal storage and 3GB RAM. It features a 12-megapixel rear camera (with a pixel size of 1.25μm) and phase-detection autofocus with contrast autofocus. The front camera is an 8-megapixel shooter. Nova also supports 4K video recording. Its 141.2 x 69.1 x 7.1mm body at 146g packs a 3,020mAh battery, and charging is done via a USB Type-C port. Other features include Knuckle Sense technology (after a software update), 3D Fingerprint, DTS Headphone: X for audio, and a gyroscope.

The Nova Plus is a similar phone with similar specifications. It’s a 5.5-inch Full HD phone with a 2.5D curved glass display. It packs a 3,340mAh battery that features smart power management, and it only has Knuckle Sense and 3D Fingerprint for its features. It measures 151.8 x 75.7 x 7.3mm at 160g. The camera also comes with Optical Image Stabilization. Other specifications are otherwise identical to the Nova.

Huawei’s smartphone portfolio gets larger as the days go by. Currently, there’s the Mate series, P series, a lifestyle GR series, the Honor range, and the Y. The Nova would make it yet another range of smartphones catered to yet another group of users.

The Nova has a recommended retail price of EUR 399 (S$604.62) and the Nova Plus will be going for EUR 429 (S$650.08). No availability dates are out yet, but both phones will make its way to more than 50 countries and regions. The phones are currently available in China, via online retailers such as JD.com and Tmall.com, and their Huawei stores.
