HTC is not giving up yet, working hard on future flagship phones and Vives

HTC is not giving up on the smartphone market as it is still working hard on future flagship phones. It is also focusing on future Vives VR headsets.

Taiwanese company HTC may not be in the news much this year, but do not write them off so soon.

HTC's Senior Global Online Communications Manager Jeff Gordon tweeted that the employees are "working hard on future flagship smartphones and Vives". This should address any concerns whether the company is still investing in smartphones after several quarters of declining sales and revenue.

As HTC struggled to garner the same level of attention and sales as its counterparts in recent years, its competitors continued to push ahead  during the same period. For example, Huawei is the third largest smartphone maker in the world with a full-year revenue of US$60.1 billion. It is also working with Leica on setting up a R&D centre for developing optical and software systems, which will boost the imaging capabilities of its smartphones

It remains to be seen if HTC is able to stay relevant in the smartphone space in the coming years. Its partnership with Google to make the Pixel smartphones can be considered as a step in the right direction.
