According to a TechCrunch report, Smartphone maker HTC is buying S3 Graphics from VIA Technologies for US$300 million. VIA will get US$147 million, while WTI Investment International (an investor of VIA) will receive the other US$153 million.
Interestingly, HTC's co-founder Cher Wang is also the chairman of VIA Technologies and a major shareholder in WTI.
The deal will give HTC a number of patents and technology related to graphics. Just recently, S3 Graphics won a patent lawsuit against Apple; the court has ruled that Apple had violated two of S3 Graphics' patents related to "systems and methods for compressing images" and "image data formats".
