Honor's silicon-carbon battery has higher energy density than lithium batteries

Honor just announced a significant advancement in battery technology for smartphones.

The Chinese company unveiled the world's first silicon-carbon battery which has a higher energy density compared to the current lithium battery. Honor claims its silicon-carbon battery has 12.8% higher energy density.

To put this into context, a standard lithium battery will have a capacity of 5,100mAh while a silicon-carbon battery will have a capacity of 5,450mAh. When the battery drops to 3.5V, a silicon-carbon battery will have 240% more capacity left compared to the lithium counterpart.

As the Honor Magic5 Pro variant sold in China comes with a 5,450mAh battery and the international model has a 5,100mAh battery, it is likely that Honor has already deployed the silicon-battery in consumer devices.
