A month before its global launch, Chinese smartphone maker Honor has released more details regarding its Honor View 20 phone.

The successor to the 5.99-inch View 10, the View 20 has an “All-View Display”, which in a nut, is an edge-to-edge display with an in-screen front camera. With a small 4.5mm punch hole at the top left for the selfie camera, the similarity between Honor’s All View Display and Samsung’s Infinity-O display is uncanny. According to Honor, this embedding of the camera into the display unit involves a complex 18-layer technology stack.

The View 20 will also sport a 48-megapixel rear camera that uses Sony’s IMX586 sensor. Announced in July this year, the IMX586 is able to achieve a 48MP effective resolution (8,000 x 6,000!) thanks to its stacked CMOS design. To combat noise that comes from the sensor’s tiny 0.8 μm pixels, the IMX586 employs a Quad Bayer color filter array (i.e., the adjacent 2 x 2 pixels come in the same color) so that each pixel can leverage signals from the four adjacent pixels to increase overall light sensitivity. The Honor View 20 will run Huawei’s Kirin 980 chipset, which has a new dual-ISP and dual-NPU.

Another new feature coming to View 20 is Link Turbo. Simply put, this looks at users’ usage patterns and network conditions to intelligently switch between Wi-Fi and 4G networks.

Full specs of the Honor View 20 will be announced at the phone's official launch in China on December 26. The phone is also expected to launch globally after its January 22 event in Paris. For those interested to find out more, Android Central has a first look of the phone at a recent Hong Kong event.
