Honor is kicking off MWC 2025 on a strong note with the announcement of its new Honor Alpha Plan that's designed to help the company transform from "a smartphone maker to a global leading AI device ecosystem company".
One of the more notable and immediate updates as part of its Alpha Plan is that the Chinese company now joins other brands in offering seven years of Android and security updates for flagship products in the Honor Magic series, applicable to both bar-type and foldable phones. This puts its phones on par with other flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S series in terms of software support. The Magic7 Pro will be the first to take advantage of this new announcement.
Honor Alpha Plan has three grand steps in its strategy to tranform Honor into an AI device ecosystem company. First, it plans to have an intelligent phone, which Honor is currently working with its partners to develop. The company envisions this phone to be an integral part of the plan and is poised to have human-centric AI that can "maximise human potential."
Next up, Honor intends to "co-create a new paradigm for AI ecosystem" before moving on to "co-create a new paradigm for civilisation".
James Li, CEO of Honor, said:
It is clear that the AI revolution will reshape the paradigm of the device industry - completely transforming our productivity, our society and even our culture more than ever before.
Honor has been working on AI features for a while to help reach that goal, and the company has just announced a few new ones. Firstly, the new GUI-based personal mobile AI agent can do things like making a table reservation via a third-party service while considering details like appointments already planned in the calendar as well as considering traffic information.
AiMAGE is Honor's new brand for imaging technology, and is powered by AI Kernel, which supports on-device-cloud AI models. The on-device model can support a 1.3-billion parameter model for better image upscaling and clarity. At the same time, the cloud side can run a 12.4-billion parameter model to significantly enhance the quality of telephoto shots.
There's also a new collaboration with partners like Google Cloud that allows for new AI photo editing features to be integrated into Honor's smartphones. For example, the Honor Magic7 series will be getting a new AI Upscale feature to restore old photos later this March. AI Deepfake detection will also be arriving in Honor's flagship bar and foldable phones in other international markets soon (check out our review of it in action here).
Last but not least, Honor also announced a new file-sharing technology that works across different ecosystems, with fast file transfer speeds regardless of whether the devices are Android or iOS.

While everything sounds exciting, Honor has a track record of overpromising and underdelivering AI features, as seen in our past reviews of the Honor Magic6 Pro and Magic7 Pro. However, we're excited about these features, and we certainly hope they'll be released sooner rather than later.
