Here's how to fix the annoying iOS bug that crashes your iPhone today
An iOS bug has caused some iPhones to restart repeatedly today. Here's how to fix the issue.
A bug in iOS 11.1.2 is causing some iPhones to restart repeatedly since this morning. On HardwareZone forums, iPhone users created a forum thread spanning three pages complaining about the auto rebooting issue. If you're one of the unfortunate customers facing this issue, here's the lowdown on the issue and how to fix it.
According to iMore and engineer Yoshimasa Niwa, the iPhone would begin to crash on or after 2 December if there is an app that sends local notifications. Local notifications are used by third party apps to alert the users to do something such as mediate, feed in-game creatures or to complete a to-do item. The bug is causing the local notifications to consume excessive memory which crashes the iOS springboard.
Apple has acknowledged the issue and created a support page on its website. It recommends affected users to turn off notifications for all apps and update to iOS 11.2. These are the steps to take to disable notifications:
- Tap Settings > Notifications
- Tap an app, then turn off Allow Notifications. Repeat this step for each app.
- Update your device to iOS 11.2
- After updating, tap Settings > Notifications and turn Allow Notifications on again for each app.
- If you're unable to update or still have issues after the update, contact Apple Support.
iMore also has another option to fix the issue, which is to change the date to before 2 December.
