Google's acquisition of HTC could happen very soon
HTC is preparing to make a big announcement tomorrow and it has something to do with Google.
Following news of the "final stage of negotiation" between HTC and Google, there have been new developments in the past few hours suggesting that an acquisition is imminent.
Taiwanese news site TechNews and Bloomberg columnist Tim Culpan reported that HTC has suspended trading tomorrow on the Taiwanese Stock Exchange due to an upcoming major announcement.
Reliable tipster @evleaks added that he has received a copy of an internal invitation to the HTC Employee Town Hall Meeting tomorrow (21 September) and the topic is Google's acquisition of the company. The source told @evleaks that Google will be acquiring some hardware assets of HTC, but the Taiwanese company is allowed to retain its brand so that it can continue to focus on its Vive VR business.
It is likely that Google will acquire the mobile division of HTC since the latter is believed to be manufacturing the upcoming Pixel 2 smartphone. This isn't the first time that Google has bought a phone maker. It acquired Motorola Mobility in August 2011 and sold it off to Lenovo three years later.
