New Google Pixel feature asks for your help to prevent overheating

As spotted on Android Authority, the team took apart the APK of Google’s Device Health Services app and found several strings of code that hinted at a new thermal management feature for Android-based Pixel devices.
It’s codenamed “Adaptive Thermal” and goes beyond the standard auto-cooling functions already available on most modern Android (and non-Android) smartphones.
Currently, phones that overheat tend to start the cooling-off process automatically by slowing down or shutting down certain functions (limiting network connectivity, denying camera access, slower charging, etc.). Adaptive Thermal is said to go beyond automated management by recruiting the user’s help to speed up the cooling process.
According to the APK file teardown, the new feature has a battery temperature measurement service that throws out notification dialogues when the Pixel device reaches 49°C. Prompts include letting the user know that the phone needs to cool down, and it also recommends actions (i.e. avoiding direct sunlight, closing out apps). Additionally, the app has a “See care steps” prompt that shows the user what steps the device automatically takes to start cooling down.
Android Authority said that the APK samples your device's temperature every five minutes to check its temperature. If the device reaches a higher 52°C, the app causes it to enter an “emergency” state. At 55°C, the phone initiates an automatic shut-down.
It’s unclear if Adaptive Thermal will be part of Android 15 or if it’s coming as a Pixel Feature Drop soon.
