Is Google going to bring back extra-large phones again? According to the latest rumours, the XL versions of Pixel phones might return.

The tipsters who unveiled early renders of the Google Pixel 9 series phones (OnLeaks, in collaboration with 91Mobiles) at the start of 2024 have come forward with more updates.

First, the earlier leaks were renders of Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. It was not the base Pixel 9, as originally assumed.

Second, these tipsters have developed new renders for the Pixel 9 now that they’ve established that Google is adding an XL version to the lineup.

Put that together, and we’re looking at a possible re-entry of XL variants with the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL.

The new March 2024 renders by the tipsters revealed that the base Pixel 9 would likely feature rounded corners, a flat display, and flat sides (it looks really similar to modern Apple iPhones). It would still retain the same oblong-shaped raised camera housing that juts out from the rest of the device, as seen in the earlier concept renders by the duo.

The last time Google had an XL variant for its Pixel phones was the Google Pixel 4 XL (review here), and it mysteriously went away from the Pixel 5 series onwards. Back then, the Pixel 4 XL also resembled the iPhone of its time.
