Ever wished you framed your photos slightly differently? Google now has a “new experimental editing experience” that relies on generative AI to make the impossible possible.
Magic Editor is a new, upcoming feature in Google Photos, which builds upon existing advanced editing features like Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur. According to Google, Magic Editor will be an early access feature to “select Pixel phones” later this year.
Magic Editor allows the user to reposition subjects and elements inside a photo, which effectively helps the user reframe their shots. When repositioning, Magic Editor automatically uses AI to generate the missing elements in your image to fill the gap left behind.
Google Editor generates missing parts of the bench and balloons to help reframe your shot.
At Google I/O 2023, the company demonstrated how it used Magic Editor to reposition an entire kid on a bench with a dozen balloons, with its generative AI fabricating a significant amount of imagery that was never initially captured in the photo.
The provision of Magic Editor is one part of Google’s bigger goal of making “AI more helpful for everyone”. The AI-centric approach seen at Google I/O 2023 cuts across a growing number of Google services and products, in both enterprise and consumer capacities.
