If you were poking around Geekbench 6’s CPU results page over the weekend, you might have spotted a mysterious benchmark score with the name “Google Frankel”. This mystery processor has no other accompanying information, which has led to rife speculation and guesswork by its observers.

As reported on GSMArena, the “Google Frankel” listing was believed to be a Google Tensor G5 chipset based on its CPU core layout and choice of GPU.

The score was uploaded to Geekbench 6 on 2 November 2024, with plenty of hints about its origins and its nature. Like most mobile processors, the “Google Frankel” had a specific eight-core, three-cluster layout (1x prime, 5x performance, and 2x efficiency cores).

This is on top of the CPU running off an Android 15 operating system, with a CPU governor unmistakably Google’s (sched_pixel). The CPU also uses Arm’s technologies for the cores.

That said, the score is best treated as a work-in-progress and does not indicate Google’s future processor performance. While Google Frankel managed to have scores higher than the Google Tensor G4 scores we got from our own testing, it is still lower than other Tensor G4 scores reported on Geekbench 6.

There is also no confirmation that Google Frankel is a prototype that would even make it into a future official Google product, although it’s heartening to see Google making the effort to improve its mobile performance with these tests.
