Google confirms the Pixel 4 supports face unlock and motion gestures

Google just confirmed two new features of the Pixel 4 smartphone.
In a blog post and YouTube clip, Google revealed that the Pixel 4 will use a motion-sensing radar technology (Soli) to detect small motions around the phone. When combined with unique software algorithms and the advanced hardware sensor, the Pixel 4 can recognize gestures and detect when the user is nearby. Soli will enable some Motion Sense features such as skipping songs, snoozing of alarms and silencing incoming calls by just waving your hand. Motion Sense will be available in select markets.
Similar to Face ID on the iPhone X series, the Pixel 4 will have face unlocking technology powered by Soli and does it better in some ways. For example, Soli will proactively turns on face unlock sensors as the user reaches for the phone. If the face unlock sensors and algorithms recognize the user, the phone will be unlocked as it is being picked up. It also works in almost any orientation, supports secure payments and app authentication.
Google claims that the face unlock uses facial recognition technology that is processed on the Pixel 4, and information captured from face unlock is never saved or shared with other Google services. In addition, the face data is stored securely in the Pixel's Titan M security chip.
