Last week, Google released the ARC Welder application that will allow developers to convert their Android apps, so that they can run in Chrome and Chrome OS. Google ARC Welder is available for free from the Chrome Web Store. Besides being a developers’ tool, the software will also allow the end-user to attempt to run Android applications on supported platforms. As a result, end-users are able to experiment running such apps in Chrome on our Windows, Mac OS, and even Linux systems. This applies for owners of Chrome OS devices too. Incidentally, the acronym ARC stands for App Runtime for Chrome.

However, as noted by PCWorld, such attempts may be hair-pulling ones as the Android app may not work properly. However, the ARC Welder does provides a platform for all to do some experimenting with Android apps, away from their native operating environment. This step forward by Google may just lead to more Android applications being ported over to PCs and other computing devices. Head over here to get the ARC Welder extension for your Chrome browser.
