Flagship iPhone model to be called iPhone Edition, may launch later than usual
The high-end iPhone model may not be called the iPhone 8 after all.
The top-end iPhone model may have a new moniker and hit retail shelves later than the other two iPhone models.
According to Japanese blog Macotakara, Apple is considering to name the premium model the "iPhone Edition". Just to be clear, the premium model is widely believed to the only one sporting the 5.8-inch OLED display.
At the moment, Apple is still testing different prototypes for the "iPhone Edition" which include models with and without the Touch ID button. Glass, ceramic and aluminum designs with LCD and OLED panels are also being tested. This testing stage is known as the engineering validation testing, which means that Apple may need more time for testing and sourcing materials to make the final decision on the hardware. As a result, Macotakara believes the "iPhone Edition" may be not be available for purchase at the same time as the iPhone 7s/7s Plus.
The "iPhone Edition" will reportedly cost over US$1,000 (~S$1,421) due to the more expensive OLED panel and advanced features such as the "revolutionary 3D-sensing camera" and a "function area" at the bottom of the display.
