The first phone with Synaptics's in-display fingerprint sensor might not be from Samsung

Samsung might not be the first OEM to introduce a smartphone with Synaptics' in-display fingerprint sensor.

Synaptics' recent announcement about working with a top five OEM to mass produce its Clear ID FS9500 optical in-display fingerprint sensors sparked rumors that it could be Samsung. However, Forbes' contributor Patrick Moorhead thinks otherwise.

Patrick apparently had the opportunity to test a pre-production unit with the in-display fingerprint sensor from Chinese phone maker Vivo. His hands-on experience revealed that the Clear ID experience was "fast and simple". He also shared photos of the CMOS image sensor on Twitter:

Vivo might not be as well-known as its Chinese counterparts, but it is actually one of the top five phone vendors according to IDC's tracking for Q1 2017. If you recall, Vivo was the first company to release a phone with a 2K display in December 2013.
