First-day sales of the Galaxy S9 lower than that of the Galaxy S8 in Korea

Sales of the Galaxy S9 are not looking good.

With pre-orders said to be below expectations in South Korea, it is no surprise that the first-day sales of the Galaxy S9 handsets in the country are disappointing compared to the Galaxy S8.

Industry sources told Yonhap News Agency that the first-day sales performance of the Galaxy S9 were around 70% of its predecessor. About 180,000 units were distributed through South Korea's three telcos last Friday. In comparison, 260,000 units of Galaxy S8 handsets were distributed by the three telcos in the same time period last year.

The weak sales performance is attributed to a lack of innovative features on the Galaxy S9 handsets. However, the Galaxy S9 handsets are praised for their industry-leading displays and outstanding camera performance
