While there is no firm timeline for the return of Nokia-branded devices, HMD Global Oy is laying the groundwork by hiring a Chief Marketing Officer. The candidate is none other than seven-year Nokia veteran and ex-CEO of Angry Birds maker Rovio, Pekka Rantala.

Rantala worked in Nokia from 1994 to 2011 before joining Rovio in 2015 as its CEO. However, he stepped down from his post a year later after removing a third of the workforce. He reportedly stated that it was time for him to move on to new challenges.

Just three months ago, Nokia signed an exclusive licensing deal with HMD to bring its phones and tablets into the market. Foxconn via its subsidiary FIH Mobile, will support the building of a global business for Nokia-branded devices.
