Corning is expanding its Gorilla Glass offerings beyond the premium device segment with the Gorilla Glass 7i.

Designed at an affordable price point for mid-range and entry-level mobile smartphones, Corning claims its Gorilla Glass 7i is tougher than competitive lithium aluminosilicate glasses from other manufacturers.

According to Corning, Gorilla Glass 7i can survive drops of up to 1m on surfaces replicating asphalt. In comparison, lithium aluminosilicate glasses typically shatter when dropped from half a meter or less.

Corning also says Gorilla Glass 7i is up to 2x more scratch-resistant than lithium aluminosilicate glasses.

David Velasquez, vice president and general manager, Corning Gorilla Glass said:

We remain committed to helping our customers solve their toughest technological challenges across all market segments – from entry-level phones to their premium flagship devices.
