CMF by Nothing prepares an 8 July 2024 announcement for three new products.
Will CMF by Nothing finally have a smartphone in its product lineup? Will it work like the phones by its main brand, Nothing?
All that would be answered on 8 July 2024, when CMF will prepare an announcement going live at 10 AM British Time (5PM Singapore Time, same day).
According to its official social media channel on X, the 8 July announcement will consist of its new true wireless earbuds (Buds Pro 2), a new smartwatch (Watch Pro 2), and a new smartphone (Phone 1).
CMF by Nothing is a sub-brand of Carl Pei’s Nothing. The latter, mainline brand has gained a cult following with its Android smartphones touting highly customisable (and aesthetic) LED backlighting (reviews for Nothing Phone (2) and Nothing Phone (2a) here).
The sub-brand, CMF, launched its first-generation smartwatch (CMF Watch Pro) and true wireless earbuds (CMF Buds Pro) back in September 2023 but stayed silent for the following eight months. No CMF smartphone was announced during the sub-brand’s introduction, which makes the upcoming CMF Phone 1 the first-ever mobile handset to bear its name.
The phone may be here to steal the thunder from other successful Android phone makers. Nothing’s mainline phones have adopted some of Apple iPhone’s design and interface cues, which makes it unlikely for a new sub-brand to do the same.
The bigger hint, however, was the announcement that came only after rumours of Samsung’s Unpacked event gained more traction. The third clue, probably the most obvious, is CMF’s announcement happening two days before the rumoured Samsung launch.
