Broadcom Aims to Bring 4G LTE Connectivity to Budget Android Smartphones
Broadcom has just announced its new M320 and M340 systems on a chip (SoCs) that are aimed at bringing 4G LTE connectivity to budget, Android-based smartphones.

The dual-core M320 LTE SoC is already in production, while the quad-core M340 chip will be ready for sampling later this year. Both SoCs feature 150mbps LTE radio modems, and have been “validated on more than 40 networks and 20 countries for accelerated time to market." According to Broadcom, the SoCs have been pre-integrated with the Android KitKat operating system. This means that manufacturers who adopt the new Broadcom platform wouldn’t have to worry about integrating their devices with the Android OS.
In addition, the SoCs also support 802.11ac Wi-Fi (5G Wi-Fi), Bluetooth, location and near field communication (NFC) technologies. Earlier this week, Mediatek announced the MT6595, a 4G LTE octa-core smartphone SoC with ARM's new Cortex-A17 processor. This processor features ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture for power-performance efficiency, and supports wireless charging too. Please click here for the official press release from Broadcom.
