ASUS ROG Phone II will be the first to be powered by Snapdragon 855 Plus

The ROG Phone 2 will be the world’s first gaming smartphone to be powered by the Snapdragon 855 Plus mobile platform.

The ROG Phone 2 is still very much shrouded in secrecy, but ASUS has just released a little tease; the gaming-centric smartphone will be the world’s first to be powered by the Snapdragon 855 Plus mobile platform.

Now, we already know the Snapdragon 855 is found in most top-of-the-line Android phones in the market today. But the Plus is designed with 5G, gaming, AR and XR in mind; features that are undoubtedly the mainstays of a gaming centric phone like the ROG Phone II.

Specifically, ASUS claims that the Kyro 485 CPU in the Snapdragon 855 Plus will run at up to 2.96GHz instead of 2.84GHz, while the improved Adreno 640 GPU is clocked at 15% faster than the current Snapdragon 855.

Interestingly, the original ROG Phone was the only smartphone to use the Snapdragon 845 Plus. Whether other Android phone makers will adopt the Snapdragon 855 Plus for their future smartphones remain to be seen.

ASUS will unveil the ROG Phone II on 22nd July, and we’ll spill the beans about the phone as soon as we can. One thing is for sure, ASUS already has a damn fast phone in their hands.
