ASUS may be the next company to bring fingerprint recognition technology to its smartphones later this year.

According to chinatimes, Jerry Shen, CEO of ASUS, revealed his plans to do so at a press conference last week in Beijing. He reportedly stated that the ZenFone 3 - the successor of the current ZenFone 2 - will sport a fingerprint sensor.

While consumers may have to wait a year before the ZenFone 3 becomes a reality, Shen hinted that a smartphone with the fingerprint sensor could be available later this year (likely to be a facelift to the ZenFone 2).

With more brands embracing fingerprint recognition technology as a more secure phone locking feature, ASUS has to accelerate its efforts in this field if it does not want to be left behind.
