ARM-Powered Lego Robot Sets New World Record for Solving Rubik’s Cube
An ARM-powered Lego robot, which features a Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone, has set the new world record of 3.253 seconds for completing the Rubik’s cube. The previous world record of 5.27 seconds, was held by an earlier version of the current robot.

The intelligence behind the customized Lego robot, the Cubestormer 3, is the Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone. It is powered by an Exynos 5 octa-core processor, which is made up of four ARM Cortex-A15, and four Cortex-A7 CPU cores, in an ARM big.LITTLE architecture.
According to the two researchers, the robot showcases how Galaxy S4 device is able to run a customized Android application to analyze the cube, and control the moving parts of the robot to solve the puzzle. The complexity of such a task highlights the capabilities of the Cubestormer 3 in mimicking the “judgment and dexterity” of a human being, tasked with the same puzzle. The research team behind Cubestormer 3, consists of David Gilday, who is a principle engineer at ARM, and Mike Dobson, a security systems engineer for Securi-Plex.
