Apple's next generation mobile processor goes into mass production

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) has reportedly started the mass production of Apple's next generation mobile processor, the A12.

Bloomberg reports that Apple's manufacturing partner, TSMC has started the mass production of the next generation A12 mobile processors for the three new iPhone models launching later this year.

Citing information from its sources, Bloomberg claims that the A12 chip will be based on a 7nm design which is smaller, faster and more efficient than the current 10nm chips used in the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. The A12 chip is expected to boost performance for the upcoming iPhones without sacrificing on battery life.

Apple isn't the only phone maker to be using 7nm chips for its mobile devices. Samsung is reportedly planning to equip its phones with 7nm chips and production will start sometime this year.
