Apple's new iPhones to support LTE speeds of up to 300Mbps with new Qualcomm chip?
9to5Mac reports that Apple's new iPhones will come with a new Qualcomm LTE chipset which is more power-efficient and can deliver 4G LTE speeds of up to 300Mbps.

Apple may be giving its new iPhones a boost in 4G LTE speeds later this year.
According to 9to5Mac, images of a prototype iPhone 6S logic board provided by a source reveal that Apple will be using Qualcomm's MDM9635 chip. The MDM9635 chip was unveiled in November 2013 and is Qualcomm's first 4G LTE modem designed on a 20nm architecture.
The 4th generation Gobi MDM9x35 LTE modem can support LTE FDD Category 6 with downloaded speeds of up to 300 Mbps, which is double of that in the existing iPhone 6 models. In addition, the MDM9635 chipset is also more power-efficient which can lead to better battery life on the new iPhones and less warming up under intensive usage conditions.
As the chipset is designed on a 20nm architecture, it saves Apple some precious motherboard space to possibly accommodate a slightly larger battery. Leaked case sketches already hinted that the new iPhones will be thicker and a bigger battery could be another reason besides the integration of Force Touch.
