I wouldn't put it in my back pockets though.

Leaks surrounding Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Air have started surfacing, and it seems like a fresh design approach might be on the cards – especially coming on the back of recent news about Apple's interest in releasing a "port-free" smartphone.
Reliable leaker Sonny Dickson recently shared images of dummy models and as seen on The Verge, these provide an intriguing look at what Apple might unveil later this year.
At first glance, the iPhone 17 Air appears significantly slimmer than the current iPhone 16 phones and might measure just 5.5mm thick. This incredible reduction would make existing iPhones, which are already sleek as they are, seem unusually bulky by comparison.
The thin profile may also attract users who favour a lightweight device without compromising too heavily on screen size, as the iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to feature a 6.6-inch display. This places the 17 Air neatly between the existing 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro and the larger 6.9-inch Pro Max.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman supports these leaks, adding that Apple initially considered a larger 6.9-inch screen but decided against it for fear of risking the phone bending easily. The new model is expected to sport Apple's Dynamic Island cutout and notably slimmer bezels. Interestingly, it could also come equipped with Apple's Camera Control button, consistent with previous leaks.
Despite being targeted as a mid-tier offering, the iPhone 17 Air won't entirely skimp on advanced features. Mark claims the inclusion of a 120Hz ProMotion display ensures smooth visuals, and that it will reportedly feature Apple's A19 processor instead of the Pro variant.
Pricing speculation suggests a price point around US$900, aligning closely with the current iPhone 16 Plus. If the iPhone 17 Air proves popular, it could signal a shift towards even bolder design choices from Apple. Mark also says that if the slim model is successful, it will potentially even serve as a foundation for Apple's anticipated foldable device, expected to debut by 2026.
