Apple's Health app could be transformed into a subscription service next year.
Bloomberg reports that Apple is working on a revamped Health app with an AI coaching feature. It is slated to launch in the spring or summer of 2026 as part of the iOS 19.4 update.
Codenamed Project Mulberry, the new app is said to feed health data collected on the iPhone and/or Apple Watch to an AI health coach. By analysing the user's health data and trends, the AI coach can play relevant videos to explain potential health conditions and offer some recommendations.
Apple is believed to have trained the AI coach using data from its physicians. Additionally, the company plans to recruit experts in nutrition, physical therapy, mental health, and cardiology. It is also looking for "outside doctors" to develop the abovementioned videos.
Another key feature of the revamped Health app is food tracking, where the AI coach will suggest diet recommendations based on the user's eating habits.
For fitness enthusiasts, Apple plans to allow the Health app to use the iPhone camera to assess the user's form during exercises and provide guidance. This could integrate with the Apple Fitness+ service.
Speaking of subscription services, Bloomberg claims some Apple employees refer to the revamped Health app and its features as "Health+". If true, this could become a new recurring income stream for the company's Services division, joining the likes of Apple TV+, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, iCloud+, Apple Music and Apple Arcade.
The Services unit, which subscription services fall under, is the second largest revenue driver after the iPhone and its contribution to the overall business of the company is becoming ever more critical with the recent slowdown in iPhone sales.
