Apple rumored to introduce iris scanners on the iPhone in 2018

Industry sources told DigiTimes that Apple is likely to debut iris scanners on the iPhone in 2018.

Fingerprint authentication may not be the only form of biometric recognition technology on mobile devices in the near future. 

According to DigiTimes, industry sources claim that phone makers and solution suppliers have been ramping up efforts to develop and support biometrics technology. Samsung is expected to take the lead with its Galaxy Note 7 this year while Apple is said to be only introducing iris scanners for its iPhones in 2018. 

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported in March that the 2017 iPhone may come with additional biometric recognitions which can include eye recognition
