Originally planned for release in 2018, Apple is said to be introducing the first iPhone with an OLED display as early as next year.

Chinese news site Nikkei claims in a report that Apple is currently ahead of schedule and may ship iPhones with OLED displays in 2017. Apparently, Apple wants to release iPhones with OLED displays earlier to boost sales of its smartphones.

Apple was reportedly sourcing for OLED display suppliers with major Korean display manufacturers pitching their products. Electronic Times reported in December 2015 that Apple was finalizing its deals with LG and Samsung to supply OLED panels for the iPhone. An estimated US$12.8 billion is expected to be invested over the next three years to build facilities and equipment to meet Apple's demands.
